I have a question about a memorial?

Go to the memorial on Find a Grave. Select ‘Suggest Edits’ located in the top section of the memorial. Ask your question by scrolling down and selecting Contact Manager. Fill out the form. The question is sent to the manager of that memorial. The manager is listed at the bottom of the memorial.

How do I Suggest Edits for a memorial?

You can submit updates of factual information for any memorial by selecting 'Suggest Edits' on the memorial you'd like to update. On the Suggest an Edit page for that memorial update any fields.

  • Name Fields
  • Birth date/month/year/location
  • Death date/month/year/location
  • Biography
  • Burial - Burial location or disposition of remains
  • Cemetery plot - Add the plot location in this field
  • GPS - GPS location while standing at the headstone (+-dd.dddd, +-dd.dddd)
  • Inscription - The inscription field should only include information that is on the grave marker, but you can add any information from the headstone to the inscription field
  • Gravesite Details - Details specific to grave marker or site (i.e. description, condition, history, significance of symbols)
  • Label as Cenotaph or Monument - Learn more at Cenotaph and Monument Information
  • Family Members
  • Designate this person as a veteran

1       Go to the memorial. Select Suggest Edits.

2        Add updates to any fields for the memorial. Scroll down on the Suggest an Edit page to view all fields. Add an optional note about your suggested edits. Adding a short note about the suggested edit gives the manager readily available information when reviewing it. If you'd like the note to only apply to one edit, send that edit and note separately from other suggested edits. If your note applies to several edits, you can suggest all those edits at one time and add one note that will apply to all of them.

3        ‘Save Suggestions’ to send suggested edits and notes to the manager of the memorial. A manager accepts or declines the suggested edits according to their research or the research that is sent to them. If a suggested edit is declined, send the edit again with a note about the suggested edit. It is possible that the manager has differing information and may decline the suggestion. The suggester receives notification after processing according to their notification settings and also within their Suggested Edits queue under 'Suggestions I've Sent.'

After 21 days, if the edit is not declined it is automatically sent to Find a Grave's edit queue for processing.

Please be considerate when sending edits for multiple memorials managed by the same member. A large number of edits sent at once to a single manager may be overwhelming.

Tip:

  •             When a manager is reviewing longer text edits such as biography, inscription, or gravesite details, there is an option for the manager to Modify the edit and accept it. You will receive notification of the modification according to your notification settings.

How do I correct a wrong or incomplete edit request I submitted?

To cancel a suggested edit, you can go to the memorial, click on Suggest Edits and Cancel the specific edit from the suggest edits page.

Alternatively, select Suggested Edits  in the upper right corner. Select Suggestions I’ve Sent. Locate the edit. You can search for it by memorial ID under 'More options.' Select Cancel for that suggested edit. Then return to the memorial and suggest the correct edit.
