General Information
Photos added to famous memorial pages and cemetery pages are submitted directly to Find a Grave for review. Please only submit each photo once. You will receive a notification about your photo submission, generally within a few days. If accepted, it will be displayed on the memorial page.
As much as possible, grave photos should be clear, legible, and well-composed. Some tips:
-Ensure your lens is clean and avoid including your fingers, feet, or shadow
-Don't include people, vehicles or car parts, or other distractions from the grave
-Properly crop the photo if needed
-Types of photos accepted
We generally don’t accept stylized borders, decorative or additional graphics, or images that are low quality, low resolution, or that are too small. This includes collages and photos that are heavily edited. Photos in their original color format are preferred over colorized versions.
Can I add photos to famous memorials?
Yes, we welcome the addition of photos to famous memorials. Famous memorials are a special collection where photographs are usually limited to 1-2 good biographical photos and 2-4 grave photos. We don’t accept photos of family members or document images on famous memorials. Photos submitted to famous memorials go through an approval process, which usually takes a few days at most. We suggest submitting the photo in its original color format.
We strive for each famous memorial to have high quality grave photos that record the grave and the gravesite. Please photo document the overall stone, the information on the stone, and the grave that includes the surrounding area. More complex burial sites may need additional photos to document the gravesite.
Can I post animated GIFS, MIDIS (music files), or other non-personal images?
No. MIDI music files, animated GIF images, and other non-personal images are not allowed in the photo section of a memorial page. Non-personal images include flowers, angels, flags, banners, coats of arms, etc. These types of images can be added when you Leave a Flower. Custom Icons and Virtual Flowers can be added to your Scrapbook.
Can I add a watermark to my photo?
Yes, a photographer can add a watermark to their photo. Watermarks must be small, in good taste, non-intrusive, and not a distraction from the subject of the photo.
