What is a Photo Volunteer?
A photo volunteer is a member who is willing to photograph headstones in cemeteries for others.
To volunteer, sign in and go to your Account Settings. Select Photo Volunteer. Select that you would like to be a Photo Volunteer. You can also check the box to be emailed with new photos requests from your selected cemeteries.
Select 'Add a Cemetery' and then in the overlay add a location to the field provided (such as a city or county), or select 'Use my location.'
Choose the cemeteries where you would like to volunteer or uncheck a cemetery to stop volunteering there. Select the orange Volunteer button to save your selection.
The cemeteries you selected will now display under Photo Volunteer in Account Settings. You can 'Unvolunteer' from specific cemeteries on this page or use the 'Add a Cemetery' button to find more cemeteries where you can volunteer. If you are moving or traveling you can always change the cemeteries you volunteer for here in the Photo Volunteer area.

Registration
During registration you have the option to become a photo volunteer. When you do, we’ll ask you for a location and then automatically add the cemeteries in that location to your list of volunteer cemeteries. You can see the cemeteries we’ve added using the 'View list' link. From there you can remove any cemeteries you don’t want to include.
Cemetery page
You can add or remove an individual cemetery from your volunteer list by going to that cemetery’s page and either selecting the 'Volunteer' button to volunteer there or, if you are already a volunteer and would like to stop volunteering there, hover your mouse over 'Volunteering' and select 'Unvolunteer.'
Photo Requests Page
The Photo Requests page is a place to find new photo requests you can work on. By default the page will show open requests, with no problems reported, in cemeteries where you have chosen to volunteer. You can also see requests from a specific cemetery, other locations, or from a particular Find a Grave member from the Filter menu. On the Photo Requests page you’ll also see a tab for requests you have claimed and requests you have made.
Can I charge money as a Photo Volunteer?
No. Find a Grave does not allow Photo Volunteers to charge money for volunteering.
Can anyone fulfill a photo request?
Yes. You do not need to be signed up as a Photo Volunteer to fulfill a Photo Request. Go to Contribute. Select Photo Requests to search for available requests. In order to fulfill the Photo Request, click Fulfill. You can also go to a specific cemetery page and click on Photo Requests to see what has been requested in that cemetery.
Can I photograph headstones if I am not signed up as a Photo Volunteer?
Yes! This is what Find a Grave members have been doing since the site began. Our goal is to help people from all over the world work together to find, record and present the information from graves and grave markers. Even though you aren't signed up as a photo volunteer for any specific cemeteries, as you choose cemeteries, photograph headstones and upload the headstone photos to the site, you may end up fulfilling open photo requests unknowingly. The member who requested the headstone photo will be notified, so don't be surprised if you receive a thank you!Learn more at Add Photos
