Site Sponsorship
Your free Find a Grave membership connects you to the close knit graving community, people who are helping others make discoveries and creating the world’s largest collection of grave information together. Thank you for your participation, help and support in our joint mission to find, document, and record graves.
Everything you access and enjoy on Find a Grave has been added by our community, freely given and freely shared. But hosting all that data and developing the site are not free. Those costs are covered by advertising, support from Ancestry and sponsorships from the community.
For many years members have been asking for ways to remove third-party advertisements and to support Find a Grave financially. You can do both of these by becoming a Site Sponsor. You’ll be supporting the site as we grow, innovate, and move Find a Grave forward and you can use the site without third-party (banner) advertisements.
What are the benefits of site sponsorship?
- Support Find a Grave
- No 3rd-party ads when you use the site
- Add 2 additional photos to non-famous memorials
- No ads on your profile page
- (Optional) An acknowledgement of your sponsorship will display on your profile page
Why should I choose to become a Site Sponsor?
Site Sponsorship is for people who would like to use the site without banner ads and support Find a Grave financially.
The site is free for everyone to use and enjoy, but there are substantial costs to support, host, and develop the site. We’ve added an option for members to become a Site Sponsor, if they would like to do so.
Find a Grave is owned by Ancestry, but we are separate and try to cover our own costs like any responsible business. We’ve added this option of Site Sponsorship to give you specific benefits and also to help support Find a Grave as we grow.
We appreciate all the different ways that people support Find a Grave. We recognize our valued community that has contributed so much of their time, hard work, and efforts to Find a Grave. Many members have been doing this for decades now. The community continues this work daily. There is nothing that can replace your treasured efforts and it’s impossible to place a value on the effect that your work has had on individuals as they discover more about their ancestors.
Site Sponsorship is another way to support the site and to use the site without banner ads.
What is the duration and cost of site sponsorship?
You can be a Site Sponsor for 6 months for 25 dollars or one year for 50 dollars.
How do I become a Site Sponsor?
Go to your Account Settings and select Site Sponsorship. Select Become a Site Sponsor. On the payment page select the duration of your sponsorship, choose your auto renewal status and acknowledgement on your profile. Add your payment information and select Place Order.
How do I access and manage my site sponsorship settings?
Go to your Account Settings and select Site Sponsorship. You can toggle acknowledgement of sponsorship on your profile and ‘Manage’ your card and auto renewal status from these settings.
How does acknowledgement on my profile display?
This displays as a ring around your profile photo and the words 'Site Sponsor' below it. You can remove the optional acknowledgement through your Site Sponsorship settings.
What is a 3rd-party ad?
Third-party ads are banner ads that promote external services and products. They are provided by a third-party company and are not directly affiliated with Find a Grave, Ancestry, or services offered within the Ancestry family of sites.
Can I add two more photos when the photo limit for the memorial has been reached?
Yes, Site Sponsors will still be able to add two more photos to non-famous memorials when the photo limit has been reached. This applies to all non-famous memorial sitewide.
Will the additional photos I added still appear on the memorials if I am no longer a Site Sponsor?
Yes, the photos will remain on the memorials.
What is meant by "No ads on my Profile page?"
As a Site Sponsor, no one will see ads on your Profile as they won't be there!
How do I contact Find a Grave if I have a question about my site sponsorship?
Please reach out through our Contact Us form for sponsorship questions.
I’m not able to be a Site Sponsor right now, will anything change for me?
Nothing will change, you’ll still enjoy Find a Grave in the same way you always have! We’re grateful for all our members and recognize and value all the different ways you contribute to the site.
What is the difference between Site Sponsorship and Sponsoring a Memorial?
Site Sponsorship removes third-party ads from the whole site for you (along with other benefits listed above) for the duration of your sponsorship.
Sponsoring a memorial removes the ads for everyone from that memorial permanently. There is also a premium layout for the memorial. As the memorial sponsor, you can add 10 more photos to the memorial. Your name is highlighted as the sponsor and on virtual flowers that you leave on that memorial, or you can choose not to display your name as the sponsor.
Why don’t I see the Site Sponsorship option under Account Settings?
Site Sponsorship is not available in all countries at this time. You may not see that option in your account if you are accessing Find a Grave from a country where it is not available.
