What is a veteran?

A person who has served in the armed forces. This designation recognizes and honors their service and allows for all those who served to be easily searched for on the site. Use the veteran designation as appropriate according to the customs and culture of the individual being memorialized.

How do I designate a person as a veteran?

Go to the memorial for the person that is a veteran. Select Edit, use the toggle switch to designate veteran status, and save your update. If you don't manage the memorial, you can send a Suggested Edit. Select Suggest Edits, use the toggle switch to designate veteran status, and save your suggestion.

If the person was a veteran, then the veteran designation is appropriate and should be added. This applies across all countries and periods of time. This allows veterans to be easily searched for in Memorial Search, easily identified in cemetery memorial lists, and easily identified on their memorial. If a manager declines the veteran designation, then they would provide evidence that this person was not a veteran in the decline reason. We encourage members to refer to local customs or relevant military guidelines for specific guidance on veteran status.

We don't have a limit on sending edits but we do ask that members be considerate when sending updates. If you have a lot to send to one member, you might consider contacting them and working out an appropriate number if needed.
