Transcribe: Adding Multiple Headstone Photos

With the transcription tools you can conveniently upload multiple grave photos from a cemetery and then transcribe the details from the headstones to create memorials with the photos attached to them. You have the option to transcribe them yourself or immediately send them to the community queue for the community to help transcribe. 

When you choose to transcribe them yourself, you have 7 days to do so. After 7 days, the photos are available to the Find a Grave community to transcribe.  

1          Search for the cemetery page where you took the photos. On the cemetery page choose 

2          Drag images or Select Photos from your computer.
 

• When the photos have uploaded the bar turns green. If you've uploaded the photo in error, you can remove it by selecting the trash can icon.  

3          After the photos upload, scroll down and select   or select  to Transcribe them later. Choose to Transcribe them yourself or send them to the community queue for transcription.
If you chose to transcribe them yourself, you can do so through Transcribe Photos  in the top right corner by your member name. After seven days, the photos are placed in the community queue where any member can Transcribe them. You receive credit for the photo (and manage the memorial created) and the transcriber receives credit for transcribing the photo.


 

4       Fill in the fields on the left with the correct information and click the 'Add Transcription.' Open ‘More Options’ to see additional options (for example to transcribe an inscription).

If there is more than one person listed on the stone, fill in the last name field for the first memorial for the ‘Add Additional Person' button to display. After transcribing the first person's information, click Add Additional Person and transcribe the next person's information. The headstone photo will be added to both memorials.
 

5          Select   to add the transcription to Find a Grave.
 

How do I transcribe headstone photos later and find out how many there are to transcribe?

The photos you uploaded can be found under Transcribe Photos  in the upper right corner. Click on the green circle to see the total number of photos in your Transcribe queue and/or the community Transcribe queue.

Alternatively, you can Transcribe Photos from the cemetery page where you uploaded them.
